Smooth Beatles melodies

You probably want the album to this collection, as the CD that comes with it is largely instructive and not a complete playing of the songs.
These are largely smooth renditions of Beatles' melodies and not too advanced or harmonized to scare off an experienced fingerstyle player who can play somewhat advanced solos. Three are in standard tuning and except for "Eleanor Rigby", the rest are in DADGAD tuning.
If you like the album and can play some fingerstyle,(say "Stairway to Heaven") this is a very good collection of fingerstyle solo guitar music.

With clever arrangements, clean layout, and a "master class CD" with Mr. Juber working through each piece, this should be a must buy for all fingerstyle players interested in the Beatles. Odd book...

Not the typical Little Golden Book storyline. It's just odd. Each page contains a 4 line poem, few of which have anything to do with saying please and thank you. I was hoping more for instruction to the reader on how and why to say please and thank you. Not so much.

I was a little disappointed - because I though it would be more of a "story" and not the poems. My students are ages 3-5, & most of the poems were "above" them - but I was able to use a few during our "Manners Week" at school

mostly wonderful but...

Most of the poems are nice and the illustrations are vivid and interesting. My only two problems are the poem about the dirty pig girl and the sad crocodile. The last lines of the dirty pig girl poem basically say that people should not have to look at you unless you are clean and neat. The sad crocodile poem is even worse, with his friends running away from him and not wanting to talk to him because he is 'always sad'.

In my opinion, these are not lessons I want to teach my children. When reading this to my children, I take the opportunity to reinforce empathy and concern for others instead of disapproval because others are not conforming.

Enlightening across the arts

I'm a visual artist, and was looking for a good text to help explore drawing and geometry, since these are two of the cornerstones of my practice. I found very intriguing synthesis here. Rajchman pulls from philosophy, painting, and psychology as well as, of course, architectural theory, to get inside a number of deceptively simple-sounding concepts-- folding, lightness, grounds. His visual arts references are a bit older-- Francis Bacon and Paul Klee, for example-- but they are astute and easily applied to contemporary artists. I'd love to hear him respond to the work of, say, Sarah Sze or Julie Mehretu or Olafur Eliasson in his chapter on "Other Geometries."

About the Author
Charles Tilly was Joseph L. Buttenwieser Professor of Social Science at Columbia University, and author of fifty earlier books. Just before his death, he was honored with the Social Science Research Council's prestigious Albert O. Hirschman Prize. A founding friend of Paradigm, Tilly is author of several other Paradigm books including most recently, Explaining Social Processes.

Lesley J. Wood is Assistant Professor of Sociology at York University. Her work on globalization and social movements has been published as book chapters and in the journals Mobilization and the Journal of World Systems Research. She is currently working on a monograph about diffusion and direct action tactics.

Somewhat painful to read. While historically interesting, the book is definitely not one I would recommend for 'interesting reads.'
